Themes for Upcoming Issues

I'm returning to my original idea of having themes for each issue.  I've gotten a lot of feedback from both writers and readers that the themes are fun and enjoyable, so I'm going back to using them.  Here are the themes for the next year of issues, starting with November/December 2007:

Issue Theme
November-December 2007 A Harvest of Horrible Things.  There are a couple of ways to attack this.  One way is to look at the "harvest" side of the equation, and write a story that somehow is centered on a farm or farming.  Another way is to write a crime/horror story (cross-genre).  Or maybe combine the two.  Your choice!
January-February 2008 Celebrating Crime!  Your story needs to take place during some sort of party or other celebration: New Years, Valentine's Day, Christmas party, birthday party, Mardi Gras... whatever works for you and your characters.
March-April 2008 Weather or Not...  The weather must be a major factor in your story here.  It could be bad weather or good weather, but the weather, of whatever type, must be a major part of the storyline.  Remember the movie Key Largo?
May-June 2008 Spring Into Summer!  Your story, should you decide to submit one, must take place during Spring Break or Summer Vacation, and that has to be readily apparent from the setting and/or events in the story.
July-August 2008 Red, White and Blue-Collar Crime.  Stories in this issue need to center around the idea of patriotism or the lack thereof, or may be set in a very blue-collar working environment.
September-October 2008 Back to the Grind.  This issue will have stories focused on returning to school, college or going back to work after a nice, relaxing vacation.

Your story must be submitted no later than the first day of the month preceding the publication month for that issue.  I.e., for the March/April 2008 issue, your story must reach me no later than February 1, 2008.  Be aware, however, that if you wait until the last minute it's very possible that all slots for that issue will be filled.
